Inbound call flows
Every number has an inbound flow: a graph that decides what happens when someone calls it. You build it in the flow editor on the number’s page (Numbers → Add or Edit).
Build a flow
Section titled “Build a flow”- Click Add step and pick a node type.
- Drag the node into place and fill in its settings.
- Connect Start to the first node, then connect node outlets to the next nodes.
- Save the number.
The simplest working flow is Start → Dial with the Dial node’s To set to your own SIP username. Call your number and it rings in your browser dialer.
A call can pass through at most 20 nodes, which protects against accidental loops.
Node types
Section titled “Node types”| Node | What it does | Outlets |
|---|---|---|
| Dial | Rings one member or phone number. | Timeout |
| DialGroup | Rings several members or numbers at the same time. | Timeout |
| Queue | Places the caller in a queue, where they hear hold music until an agent answers. | none |
| Menu | An auto attendant (IVR): plays a prompt and routes on the digits the caller presses. | one per option |
| WeekTime | Branches on the day and time, for business hours. | true, false |
| Play | Plays an audio file, then ends the call. | none |
| VoiceBot | Hands the call to an AI voice bot. | none |
- Username/number: a member’s SIP username, or a phone number. A phone number is dialled out through the number’s SIP trunk.
- Timeout (1–60): seconds to ring; the default is 20.
- Spoof number: pass the original caller’s number through as the caller ID when dialling out. This works only if the SIP trunk allows it.
If nobody answers before the timeout, the call follows the Timeout outlet. If that outlet is not connected, the call ends.
DialGroup
Section titled “DialGroup”Like Dial, but with a list of usernames or numbers (type one and press Enter to add it). Everyone in the list rings at once, and the first to answer gets the call. Follows Timeout if nobody answers.
Pick a queue by name. Create queues first under Queues (see Queues). The caller waits with music on hold until an available agent answers.
The Menu node (the “Auto Attendant”) has:
- Prompt Audio: what callers hear, for example “Press 1 for sales, 2 for support”.
- Error Audio: played when the caller presses an invalid option.
- Repeat Error Audio: how many times to retry after an invalid option.
- Wait time after prompt and Multi Digit wait time: how long to wait for the first digit and between digits.
- Options: click Add option and enter the Digits callers press (digits only, each option unique). Every option becomes an outlet you connect to the next node.
WeekTime
Section titled “WeekTime”Choose a Timezone, then for each weekday tick Include and set one or more time slots (the default is 09:00–17:00). Calls inside an included slot follow true; all others follow false. A typical flow is Start → WeekTime, with true → Queue and false → Play (a “we are closed” message).
Upload an audio file, or record one in the browser. The call ends after the audio plays.
VoiceBot
Section titled “VoiceBot”Pick a voice bot from the list, or create one from the node. The voice bot then talks to the caller. See Voice bots.
