Voice bots
A voice bot is an AI agent that talks to callers in real time. You describe what it should and should not do, and it answers calls that reach a VoiceBot node in an inbound flow. It can end the call, move the caller to a queue, and call your own tools through MCP servers.
Create a voice bot
Section titled “Create a voice bot”Admins open Voice Bots and click Create.
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Name | At least 3 characters. |
| Tell the VoiceBot what to do | The bot’s instructions: its role, what it knows, and how it should help callers. |
| Tell the VoiceBot what not to do | Boundaries, for example topics to avoid or promises it must not make. |
| Tell the VoiceBot how to greet the customers | How the bot opens the conversation. |
| Pipeline | How speech is processed. See Pipelines. |
| MCP servers | Optional. Click + Add MCP Server and enter the MCP Server URL and an Authorization Token. The bot can call the tools these servers expose, for example to look up an order in your system. |
| In-built Functions | Optional built-in actions: hangup lets the bot end the call; enqueue lets it transfer the caller to a queue. With enqueue, use Add Queue to choose which queues it may use. |
Pipelines
Section titled “Pipelines”| Pipeline | How it works |
|---|---|
| Deepgram and OpenAI (default) | Deepgram converts the caller’s speech to text, an OpenAI model decides the reply, and Deepgram speaks it. |
| Realtime API | Uses OpenAI’s Realtime API, a speech-to-speech model, for the whole conversation. |
